Project Manager Job description
The Center for New Words, a nonprofit feminist organization, seeks a Project Manager for our fourth annual Women, Action & the Media (WAM!) Conference. The conference, held March 30 - April 1, 2007, will serve about 400 attendees.
This position offers stimulating contact with feminist writers, activists, and media players. It encourages creativity, independence, and dynamic collaboration with members of the Center for New Words.

- Experience coordinating community events
- Ability to assist with research and writing foundation grants
- Demonstrated skills in teamwork and collaboration with colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work self-sufficiently, and pay obsessive attention to details
- Commitment to increasing feminists’ influence in the media and public policy-making
- Computer savvy
As Project Manager, you’ll collaborate with the Program Director of Center for New Words (CNW) and also with the Conference Task Force, made up of community volunteers. You’ll also meet with the Director of CNW for general supervision and evaluation.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with research and writing of grants for WAM!2007
- Attending, taking minutes, and setting agenda for WAM Task Force meetings
- Collaborating with Task Force members to select workshop leaders and panelists
- Keeping in touch with presenters about subject matter and requirements of workshop; updating presenters in timely fashion about conference details; offering assistance to them, as needed;
- Keeping detailed information on presenters in database and hard copy
- Collaborating with Program Director to manage logistical details of the Conference such as room locations and audiovisual equipment for keynote speakers and workshops; procurement of meals and reception items; signage and registration processes, etc.
- Assisting speakers and presenters in arranging travel and accommodations, including coordinating those that need financial assistance
- Collaborating with Program Director to promote, market, and publicize WAM conference by establishing timelines, and producing and distributing promotional materials, both online and in print
- Establishing outreach to new audiences, in collaboration with Program Director
- Keeping detailed information on promotion, marketing, and publicity contacts in database and hard copy.
- Serving as contact for interested participants; keeping track of registration; updating and assisting registrants
- In collaboration with entire CNW team, helping to produce written materials for conference registration packet
- Coordinating with conference co-sponsors
This position will run from October 1st 2006 to April 15th 2007. Hours will vary depending on work demands but will average twenty hours/week. Successful candidates must be available to work 30 hrs/week in the two weeks before the conference, and all weekend during the conference.
