
Creating, Designing and Promoting Your Own Blog

So you’ve been told “You should blog!” but you don’t know where to get started. In this half-day workshop, Christine Cupaiuolo will walk you through the steps of creating a dynamic blog using Wordpress.com, free blog software. You’ll leave the workshop having learned how to:
* Register your blog
* Choose a design theme
* Write an engaging blog entry
* Find and link to relevant content
* Insert images, video and other media
* Add RSS feeds, widgets and social media tools (and learn what all these mean!)
* Track and organize headlines and other information using alerts and RSS readers
This workshop will also cover:
* What blogs can (and can’t) do for you or your organization
* Different blogging styles and how to determine which style best suits your needs
* Blogger etiquette
* Tips for promoting your blog
Suitable for individuals (such as authors and journalists) and nonprofit communication professionals. This class doesn’t require any specific technical skill, though participants should be comfortable with basic computer tasks and working online. Numerous handouts and post-workshop feedback are included.
Trainer:
Christine Cupaiuolo is a Chicago-based writer, editor and consultant with a decade of online media experience. She currently covers women’s health and politics for Our Bodies, Our Blog, writes longer articles when she can for local and national publications, and helps nonprofit organizations figure out how to make the most of blogs and social media. Christine has been presenting at WAM! since 2004.
