1. Always treat your fellow posters with respect. A general guide is to imagine you're having this conversation in person, at a small party at someone else's house. The rules of decorum that apply there, apply here.
2. Please don't state your opinion as fact.
3. You may disagree with someone else's opinion, but you may not attack them personally.
4. Just because someone disagrees with your opinion does not mean they're attacking you personally.
5. Refrain from making generalizations about people based on their race, gender, sexual orientation, class/wealth levels, ability, age, or other identity.
6. Before you post, be sure you've read what other people have had to say in the thread in which you're posting.
7. Use basic good grammar and proper capitalization. Different users here have different knowledge of internet and text abbreviations, etc., and we want to keep the conversation open to everyone.
8. If you want to reference an article or something else someone has published on the web, you can excerpt it and link to it but do not copy it in its entirety into a post -- this violates copyright laws and can get us all into trouble we don't want.
9. Please report "trolls." Trolls are posters who deliberately, repeatedly violate these rules, say hateful or hate-inciting things, attack other posters personally, post the same thing over and over again in order to disrupt the conversation, and/or post only to advertise their own site or try to sell you something. They are not welcome here. If you come across a troll please email troll@centerfornewwords.org immediately.
10. This is an open discussion forum, which means that none of the opinions expressed by posters necessarily represent the views of the Center for New Words or our Staff, Board, Advisory Board, or other affilliated folks.
11. By registering for this discussion forum, you agree to abide by these rules. Rules are subject to change at any time -- you will be notified of all rule changes before they go into effect. If you violate these rules we reserve the right to warn you, suspend your registration and/or permanently ban you from the forum.
IMPORTANT: Because of a high volume of spammers, if you want to post to the boards, you must take one additional step: immediately email jaclyn AT centerfornewwords DOT org, tell us your newly-selected username, and something that will help us know you are human (for example, what you're interested in posting about). We'll then manually give you permission to post, a process which may take only a few minutes or possibly a few hours depending on if we're by the computer.
