An Open Mic for Open Minds
New Voices Open Mic is proud to announce a new night and a new name! Mouthful: An Open Mic for Open Minds will meet every second Friday of the month to turn the mic over to your original writing in any genre - and after the reading we’ll adjourn to a local eatery to chat informally about writing and whatever else comes to mind. Come to read or come to listen: our goal is to build a community of writers and readers that supports women and their allies. 7:15 PM signup, 7:30 PM start
$5 donation requested at the door.
This month’s feature, Arden Eli Hill, is a gendergueer queer poet born and bred in the swamps of Louisiana. Arden fled to Wellesley College, graduated, and then migrated back south to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in Hollins University’s creative writing program. Arden has read at a variety of open mics and was the featured reader at Gender Crash in January 2006. Last year a packet of his poetry was awarded runner up for the Gertrude Claytor Prize. Arden is an assistant poetry editor for the Hollins Critic and also a poetry editor for Breath and Shadow, an online journal of disability literature and culture. White Plate, Arden’s first book of poetry, is forthcoming from SideShow Press.
