As 2008 comes to a close, we want to thank you for making the first five years of the Center for New Words possible - and invite you to join us as we keep moving forward. As you may know, we’ve recently begun facilitating writing workshops for women who’ve traditionally been discouraged from writing. These sessions have been thrilling for everyone involved, and we want you to have a sense of that thrill, directly from the women themselves:

Jesse, a profoundly talented writer, who in her late-thirties decided that she wanted something better for herself, something more:

“I can’t begin to tell you how this creative writing workshop has inspired me. I have become more committed to my writing than ever before. The Center for New Words will be a place that I’ll come to again and will keep in my heart for a long time.”

Arielle, a teenager who struggled to feel at home in a world that continually tells young women of color that their voices don’t count:

“Outside of school this is the only thing I know… This workshop gave me an opportunity to be myself, express that in any way I saw fit. I’m still finding my voice but this was the push I needed.”

In all of our programs, CNW is a space for women’s words, and a haven for audacious discussions, radical ideas, and diverse voices.
