We’re excited to tell you today that we’re redoubling our focus on our Women, Action, and Media Conference (WAM!). Six years ago, we initiated this program in response to early signs of a changing media and an absence of progressive women’s voices. Since then, this wildly successful program has expanded in size and influence far beyond our expectations.
At this moment in history, we believe that WAM! best expresses our mission to bring feminist voices and ideas into the public conversation. At WAM! our reach is national and global, as well as local, and our media is print, broadcast and online. Above all, WAM! inspires conversations that will help develop the complex role of progressive women’s voices and ideas in a new world of media and communication.
New Words has a 35-year history of responding creatively to changing times. In 1974, we opened New Words Bookstore. Twenty-eight years later, when we could no longer sustain ourselves as an independent bookstore, we evolved into the Center for New Words, where our events and programs flourished. Today, we believe that New Words is once again stepping into a breach, and we hope you’ll join us.
