Shabbat dinner + class at Havurat Shalom
Shabbat services followed by dinner + a class on Yiddish poetry
Friday, June 27 @ 7:00PM
Join us for services and a dairy/vegetarian Shabbat dinner followed by a class on Yiddish poetry taught by Larry Rosenwalk. Dinner and the class are free, but * * you must register by June 16th! * * RSVP to registrar@thehav.org or 617-623-3376. We regularly provide dairy-free and gluten-free options at dinner. But if you have specific food needs, let us know asap.
We will talk about some Yiddish poems on Jewish subjects such as shabbat, the Shulamite, and the advantages and drawbacks of a universal as opposed to a local god. We'll also talk about Yiddish itself. Texts and translations provided.
Larry Rosenwald teaches English and comparative literature at Wellesley College, is a practicing translator from several languages (more recently Lamed Shapiro's Yiddish story, "Newyorkish"), and a member of Havurat
Shalom.
