Upcoming Featured Guests are the poet Lloyd Schwartz, and the musician Alex Alvear. They will share from their work followed by a discussion with the audience. Lloyd Schwartz is the author of three books of poetry: These People, Goodnight, Gracie and Cairo Traffic. He is the classical music editor of The Boston Phoenix, a regular commentator for NPR and teaches at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, In 1994, he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism. Most recently, Schwartz served as co-editor of Elizabeth Bishop:Poems, Prose, and Letters, for the Library of America. Alex Alvear is a composer, arranger, bassist, singer and Musical Director of Mango Blues, which incorporates elements of Jazz, R&B and Funk fused with traditional Afro-Latin music. Born in Ecuador, Alvear traveled to study at Berklee College of Music. He was a founder and the director of the group Aché, a pioneer of Afrocuban music in Boston. His albums include "Immigrant Blues" and most recently, "Ecuatorial."

| Directions: | The Arsenal Center for the Arts is located at 321 Arsenal Street in Watertown, Massachusetts. It is easily accessible from I-95/128, Routes 9, 16, 20, and 90 (Mass Pike), and the MBTA. From the MBTA Take the Red Line to Central Square in Cambridge, then board the 70 or the 70A bus at the stop on the corner of Western Avenue. Ride into Watertown and get off at the School Street stop. Cross Arsenal Street at the crosswalk, turn left, then take the first right onto Kingsbury Street. The Arsenal Center for the Arts will be on your left. |
