Why I'm Not a Separatist
Because men like Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and the upcoming Wonder Woman movie) exist. Take a ten minute break from your day to see his speech at a recent Equality Now event, in which he goes to town on the number one question lazy journalists ask him: What’s with all the strong women characters? Plus, a bonus introduction by Meryl Streep and awesome props to his mom.

What an amazing, inspiring speech! Joss Whedon makes me want to call up and thank my mom (who dressed me as Wonder Woman for Halloween), my dad (who described himself as my mother's "trophy husband"), get involved with Equality Now, and rent some Buffy dvds! May we all be so lucky to have such "strong women" and supportive men in our lives and may we all work each day to ensure we fulfill these roles ourselves.

What I love is how sort of unimpressed he is with himself on the feminist front. He doesn't expect anything more of himself than you would of a woman. Honestly, I've watched Whedon stuff for years and never once wondered why he had strong women characters, no more than I would if he were female.
