New Words has been the white-hot nucleus of our Feminist community. The Center For New Words will take the ideas and implementation of the past 28 years and go nova.

As a young and emerging lesbian writer, I relied on New Words Bookstore for nearly every aspect of my education and community. In the store I could find books that addressed the entire spectrum of my needs, both personal and professional. There were books on recovery from abuse, books on financial planning, on writing, on making relationships, on cooking…on just about everything that goes into being a full person. Through the reading series I was able to hear, in person, the words and wisdom of the writers who most inspired me. Writers who often may not have been given more mainstream space and time. As a more accomplished writer and now as a teacher in the community, I am excited by the direction the Center is taking. Only the accumulated knowledge and wisdom of those years could best serve the goals of the Center, and those years have been earned. As the Feminist community expands its definitions and enlarges its reach into our lives, the Center For New Words will be there, providing the integrated
and holistic range of literary, community and performance services that have nurtured us for so many years.
